CHILD, Inc. is a private, non-profit agency offering Head Start, Early Head Start and RI PreK . Its mission is to provide comprehensive child development and family support services to low and moderate income families residing in Kent County, Rhode Island. Childcare services may be extended to higher income families and/or residents outside of Kent County if openings are available.

Policy Council is a group of elected parents in our program that act as a governing body along with the Board of Directors to oversee the operation of the agency. The Policy Council meets once a month. The Policy Council should initiate suggestions and ideas for program improvements, work in conjunction with the Board of Directors in the establishment of goals for the childcare programs, and develop ways to meet these goals. The Council also approves the services and method of delivery for all CHILD, Inc. programs and makes the final selection of all program staff to be hired.
The general officers, Chairperson and Vice Chairperson, shall be chosen by the members at the first meeting after orientation. Each officer shall be elected for a term of one year.

CHILD, Inc. has a dedicated staff made up of Teachers, Mental Health clinicians, Health & Nutrition team and Family Advocates.

Policy Council members are encouraged to join one of our committees to help drive the agency program. We have a Finance Committee, Health / Mental Health Committee, and Early Childhood Education Committee.
